How to do EFT

In essence, EFT is a form of emotional acupuncture except that we don’t use needles. In a nutshell, EFT involves tapping on various points on your body whilst tuning into the specific problem of the moment and speaking particular words out loud to yourself at the same time.

Here below is a brief description of the Short Cut EFT procedure, for a more detailed description see Gary Craig’s website www.emofree.com and download the free EFT manual. You may see that there are other points and something called the 9 gamut procedure, but the short cut procedure is so easy to learn and effective that this is what we will present here.

1. Select the problem. Is it physical, emotional or thought based? Be as specific as possible in describing the problem. (See examples below)

2. Rate the problem out of 10 for how bad it feels, 10 being extremely bad.

3. SET UP. Tap gently using the fingers of your dominant hand on the karate chop point (KC) of your other hand while saying the set up phrase. “Even though I have…………” (put here your specific symptom or issue) “I completely love and accept myself”. Do this 3 times.

4. THE REMINDER PHRASE. Tap on all the other 8 points one by one in sequence repeating a reminder phrase (a few words that represents the essence of the set up phrase). Eyebrow (E), Side of eye (SE), under the eye (UE), under the nose (UN), the chin (CH), the collar bone (CB), under the arm (UA) and the top of the head (TH). Do this 2-3 times. The “set up” no 3 and the “reminder phrase” no 4 together represents 1 round of tapping. It’s easiest to tap using the fingers of your dominant hand again and tap around the points on the same side of your body.

5. Reassess the intensity of the problem out of 10.

6. THE REMAINING PHRASES. Continue with further rounds adjusting the set up phrase for example “Even though I have this remaining …………….,, I completely love and accept myself”. Also adjust the reminder phrase adding the word remaining. Persist until the rating is about 0. Persist at least for 5-6 rounds.
